Edward Nortrup
Edward Nortrup is our principal patent strategist. Ed concentrates his practice on developing, commercializing, licensing and valuing patent rights. He has developed patent portfolios supporting over $1B in IP centric sales. Ed spent ten years as an executive partner at GTC Law Group. He has developed patent portfolios and supported IP centric licensing and sales in fields related to artificial intelligence, blockchain, optics, electronics, mechanical devices, medical devices, advertising systems, control systems, alternative energy, mobile communications, augmented reality, and security systems. Prior to his work at GTC Law Group, Ed was General Counsel at Color Kinetics where he developed and executed the patent and licensing strategies from the company’s early venture backed days through a successful IPO; Color Kinetics was ultimately purchased by Philips. Along with his patent and business experience, Ed also has a 12-year background in electrical engineering. Ed is a prolific inventor with many patents. Most notably, Ed developed the location crowdsourcing technology that underlies all traffic navigation systems such as Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze. His patent portfolio has been successfully litigated and is licensed to the market.
Ed spends most of his time in Boston, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, and Austin.
